The "Gold Extra Sweet" brand "quickly became and has remained the pineapple of choice in this country and throughout the world," according to Del Monte.

The "Gold Extra Sweet" brand now accounts for about 45 percent of the pineapple market in the United States, even though it is sold at a premium price over the competition, Del Monte said.
